Ingredients

Yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis), pineapple (Ananas comosus) and mint (Mentha piperita).

How to prepare it your way

Chimarrão

Chimarrão

  1. Fill the gourd two-thirds full with yerba mate.
  2. Cover the top with your hand, turn the gourd on its side and shake it lightly: the fine powder rises and the yerba mate settles at a slant, forming a wall.
  3. Pour a little warm water into the low side and wait half a minute for the yerba mate to swell.
  4. Slide the bombilla into that same side, with your finger covering the mouthpiece, and don't move it again.
  5. Top it off with water between 65 and 75 °C. Boiling water burns the yerba mate and washes out the flavor.

Water: 65 to 75 °C

Tereré

Tereré

  1. Fill the cup or the guampa (horn cup) two-thirds full with yerba mate for tereré.
  2. Add the bombilla and pour in very cold water, with ice, from a separate pitcher.
  3. Add lemon slices or mint leaves to the pitcher, if you like.
  4. Drink and repeat: tereré holds up through many rounds without losing its freshness.

Water: Ice-cold, with ice

What this yerba mate does for you

Calm vitality

Plant composition

You take the first sip, and the vitality builds slowly and stays, without the spike and crash you get from coffee. It's the leaf's natural caffeine (about 70 to 80 mg per 150 ml cup) together with theobromine, the same substance found in cocoa. In the mate gourd, the cup or the latte, the effect is the same: a day with more presence.

A moment to come together

Traditional use

The chimarrão circle, the tereré passed from hand to hand, Arab-style mate served in small glasses, the latte shared at the coffee shop: in every culture that has adopted yerba mate, it has become both a pause and a form of hospitality. It's the benefit no energy drink delivers.

Yerba mate is a food, not a medicine. The information on benefits is educational, cites scientific sources and is not a substitute for the guidance of health professionals.
